In anticipation of the upcoming 10th International Adventure Therapy Conference (10IATC), the Taiwan Therapeutic Adventure Professional Group (TTAPG) has organized a series of warm-up activities.
In May, as a part of the series “Learning from the Masters,” we invited Dr. Kaye Richards, who has experiences in outdoor adventure therapy for more than 30 years and currently teaches at Liverpool John Moores University, UK. There were more than 50 participants joined the session online, where Dr. Kaye Richards shared the unique aspects of adventure therapy in the UK. It was an inspiring lecture that we learned so much from Dr. Richards’ extensive experiences.
Besides adventure therapy per se, in the past decade, Taiwan has actively developed various therapeutic models utilizing natural and ecological elements, namely horticultural therapy, animal-assisted therapy, and forest therapy. Taiwan Horticultural Therapy Association, Professional Animal-Assisted Therapy Association of Taiwan, Taiwan Forest Therapy Society, and Taiwan Therapeutic Adventure Professional Group have allied together, naming as Taiwan Green Care Alliance, to promote these nature-based therapeutic models. Moreover, these associations also collaborate with Far Eastern Memorial Hospital, one of the medical centers in Taiwan, to introduce the concept of “Green Prescription” which promotes the referral and cooperation between nature-based therapies and health care system. Through the connection with the nature, these therapeutic models improving people’s physical, mental, and spiritual well-being while advocating the importance of protecting natural environment. The cooperation of adventure therapy with these other nature-based therapies in Taiwan will be demonstrated in 10th IATC.
